ABTTF pays working visit to Athens and Thessaloniki
The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) paid a working visit to Athens and Thessaloniki, the capital of Greece, on 28 February-1 March 2022.
ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu made a series of contacts for an open and constructive dialogue within the framework of his working visit, accompanied by Nihan Ayan from ABTTF’s Athens Office.
The problems of the Turkish community in Western Thrace, as well as human rights violations to which they are subjected, were conveyed, and views concerning current events in Greece were exchanged.
ABTTF's delegation met in Athens on Monday, February 28 with Petros Konstantinou, Head of the Unity Movement Against the Fascist Threat (KEERFA), Panayote Dimitras, Greek Helsinki Watch (GHM) Spokesperson and European Implementation Network (EIN) Board Member, Theodoros Tsikas, Political Scientist and International Relations Specialist, and Naim Elghandour, President of the Greek Muslim Union.
The ABTTF delegation traveled to Thessaloniki on Tuesday, March 1 to meet with Prof. Konstantinos Tsitselikis, a board member of the Greek Human Rights Association (HLHR).
During the meetings, the problems of Western Thrace Turkish community and rights violations were discussed, views on discrimination against Muslims and vulnerable groups in Greece were expressed, solutions were proposed, and current developments in the country were evaluated.
