71-year-old man kills a 35-year-old burglar with a revolver

A 35-year-old man was shot dead by a 71-year-old man at 20:50 yesterday evening in the village of Hinka, in the municipality of Zitsa in the prefecture of Ioannina.

According to epirus-tv-news.gr, the 35-year-old, of Greek origin, with his facial features covered and in possession of a metal rod and dagger, invaded the house of the 71-year-old, who is a Greek resident abroad and was in his village for the summer.

The two had an argument. The 35-year-old hit the 71-year-old with a metal rod he had with him. The 71-year-old asked the young man to leave the house. When he felt he was being ignored, he took an old gun he had in his house and shot the 35-year-old man in the chest cavity.

The young man was initially transferred to the Voutsaras Hospital while a mobile unit of the ambulance service from Ioannina was alerted and rushed to the scene, which picked up and took the young man to Chatzikosta Hospital. Despite the efforts of the doctors, the 35-year-old man died.

Strong police forces rushed to the area and the elderly man was arrested while the case is under preliminary investigation.
