Meriç (Evros) New Democracy Party Deputy Dermentzopoulos announced that the Thrace Associations Federation's request for a commemoration day of Thrace Hellenism for April 6 was justified.

Meriç ND Deputy Christos Dermentzopoulos said in a statement to the evros-online that the Greek Thrace Associations Federation found the demands for the commemoration day of Thrace Hellenism on April 6 to be justified and would support their struggle until the end to fulfill their demands.

Evros ND Deputy Christos Dermentzopoulos met with Greek Thrace Associations Federation President Aris Hrisopulos. During the meeting, it was stated that the issue of the official determination of 6 April as the Thrace Hellenism Commemoration Day was discussed.

In a statement after the meeting Dermentzopoulos said:

“I would like to congratulate the President of the Federation of Panhellenic Thracian Associations, Mr. Aris Chrisopoulos, for all his important actions and initiatives in recent years.

The best example is the inclusion of the Thracian traditional costume in the dressing room of the Presidential Guard from January 2020."

Regarding the declaration of April 6 as the Thrace Hellenism Remembrance Day, Dermentzopoulos said: “For the victims of the great exile of 1914, today is a day of remembrance, honor and respect.

Thousands of Thracians left their ancestral homes and emigrated to settle in the free regions of Greece.

I have long supported the rightful demand of the Panhellenic Federation and their struggle for the preservation of the history and traditions of our Thrace. It is our duty and obligation to remember the struggles of the Thracians and to keep the memory of everyone alive, because as long as the memory is alive, there is no lost homeland.”
