JTI Foundation donated 350 thousand euro to the Municipality of Xanthi for the protection of the forests of Xanthi.
350 thousand euro from JTI to Xanthi Municipality

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Foundation, which continues its activities in the field of tobacco products by purchasing the former Sekap Factory, provided 350 thousand euro to the Municipality of Xanthi for the protection of Xanthi forests.

In the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis (General Manager of SEKE), JTI Group Chairman Iwai Mutsuo and a number of Ministers of State, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Municipality of Xanthi and Japan Tobacco International for the protection of the suburban forest of Xanthi in the amount of 350.000 Euro.

The Mayor of Xanthi Stratos Kontos, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Mr Vassilis Kikilias and a representative of the JTI Foundation signed a Cooperation Agreement for the protection of the suburban forest of Xanthi for the amount of 350.000 Euro.

The International Conference on "Promoting Innovation in Natural Disaster Response - Exchange of Good Practices" was held on Tuesday 14 May 2024 at the "Great Britain" Hotel in Athens with the participation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, JT Group Chairman Mutsuo Iwai and Japanese Ambassador to Greece Koichi Ito.

In the framework of the conference "An Act of Culture" organised by JTI Hellas in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Greece, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the JTI Foundation, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the Municipality of Xanthi for the prevention and response to natural disasters in the region of Xanthi.

PRIME MINISTER MITSOTAKIS

In his speech at the conference, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction with the co-operation agreement with JTI and said

"I would like to congratulate you for organising today's conference on the promotion of innovation in response to natural disasters, which gives me the opportunity to address an area that I consider to be extremely important for bilateral cooperation between Greece and Japan.

I attach special importance to this event and the meetings that will follow the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Our best scientists are participating and I hope we will build a strong co-operation between the Ministry of Climate Change and Civil Protection and the Japanese Government that will enable us to get even better in this critical area."
