The informal meeting on the Cyprus issue convened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres starts on Monday in Geneva.

The informal discussions will be attended by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, Türkiye’s FM Hakan Fidan, and UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and overseas territories Stephen Doughty. The EU’s head of the Support Unit for a Cyprus Settlement Giulia Bertezzolo, will also attend the informal meeting.  A working dinner for the heads of delegations was held on Monday evening.

In the margins of the informal enlarged meeting, Gerapetritis will hold a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary-General Guterres.

"Cyprus can no longer be divided," Gerapetritis said from Brussels at the meeting of EU foreign ministers, adding that "division can never be the solution. Synthesis is the only solution for a united Europe, for a peaceful world."

"The European Union, as already agreed, should be actively present in the resolution of the Cyprus problem, within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions, Gerapetritis stressed.
