Germany's Green Party elects new co-leaders

Seeking fresh leadership in the wake of poor election results, Franziska Brantner and Felix Banaszak on Saturday were elected the new co-leaders of Germany's Green Party at the party's general assembly in Wiesbaden in western Germany.

Brantner is a parliamentary state secretary at the Economic Affairs and Climate Action Ministry, while Banaszak is a former Green Party chair in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Brantner pledged to focus on investments and promoting climate-friendly heating systems.

Banaszak, representing the party's left wing, became a member of parliament in 2021.

Additionally, the party's former Vice Chair Pegah Edalatian was elected secretary-general.

The leadership change follows the resignation of Omid Nouripour and Ricarda Lang after poor election results in eastern German states this September.
