Shops open on Sunday (today) due to winter sales

Retail traders described consumer traffic during the sales as "sluggish", which the vice-president of the Athens Professional Chamber Nikos Kougioumtsis attributed to the high cost of living and the fact that the sales began almost immediately after the holidays.
"Price increases for food have snipped at the income available for consumption and we are seeing this in our cash registers," Kougioumtsis said, adding that not much was left after the spending during the holidays.
Meanwhile, Development Minister Kostas Skrekas told Parliament that inspections of the market will continue at an intensive rate to ensure its proper functioning for the benefit of consumers. He made the statement after Parliament passed four measures designed to bring down high retail prices, with the minister saying that the results should be apparent by March.
