Pyatt highlights opportunities for Greek-Turkish energy cooperation

Former US deputy secretary of energy and ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt, discussed the prospects for Greek-Turkish energy cooperation at the 10th Delphi Economic Forum.

“I consider it a major achievement that this relationship is now managed effectively and directly between the two governments. I believe this is one of the things that contributes to the interest of a company like Chevron,” Pyatt said, adding that the existence of this dialogue sends a message of trust.

“I believe that as we look to the future, there are greater opportunities for broader regional cooperation, as we have discussed. Whether it’s the vertical corridor, the transmission of clean electricity from Egypt through Greece to Europe, or more projects like the Southern Gas Corridor, which entirely depends on the cooperation between BOTAS in Turkiye and the TAP pipeline that delivers gas to Italy,” he said.

The former ambassador also highlighted Greece’s efforts to strengthen Europe’s energy resilience.

Greece has made significant progress in building resilience in Europe’s energy sector through Alexandroupoli, Revithoussa, the Greece-Bulgaria IGB gas pipeline, and the Southern Gas Corridor,” he said, adding that Turkiye has also been involved in some of these projects.
