A strong and clear confirmation of JTI's vote of confidence in Greece is the company's investment in SEKAP, which to date reaches 40 million euros and was utilized for the transformation of SEKAP into a modern production unit, the addition of new production lines, the development of exports and the performance of a "green" direction at the Xanthi factory.

In 2023, JTI increased production by 2%, which now reaches 5 billion cigarettes per year. This figure is in addition to the already significant 112% production increase that JTI had "locked in" for the period 2020-2022.

Also, in 2023, 75% of the factory's production was exported to 9 EU markets.

Contribution to Sustainability

The Group's investment to date is drawn up with the goal of sustainability of the Greek Economy as JTI contributes on an annual basis more than 2% of the total Public Revenue through the performance of the Excise Tax and the tobacco VAT.

At the same time, JTI continues to support the agricultural sector with the continuous and consistent supply of high quality Greek tobacco and through its business activities supports 50,000 families in the country.

Today, JTI absorbs about 1/3 of the total domestic tobacco production for the production of the company's products internationally, which "translates" into a percentage increase of 50% compared to 2020.

JTI Greece's contribution to the labor market is also significant in 2023. It provides 300 high-quality direct jobs, while the recent expansion of investment in heated tobacco products increased its potential by 35%.

JTI's commitment to the employment sector is confirmed through the continuous – since 2013 – recognition by the Top Employers Institute as "Top Employer in Greece".

This year, JTI was certified as one of the top 3 Top Employers in our country.

JTI's activity also concerns its impact on the Environment. The company took an important step in Greece in the three years 2020-2023, reducing by 80% the emissions of Greenhouse Gases at its production unit in Xanthi

100% "green" electricity consumption reduced by -60%, water use reduced by -80% and Waste Management by -36% with 100% management of generated waste into recycling and recovery into energy.

JTI's continued investment in Greece is an important pillar of its development in the country and constitutes a clear recognition of the need to expand and strengthen the company's activities in new areas such as the recent investment in the category of heated smoke technology products with Ploom”, states the director of Corporate Affairs and Communication of JTI Hellas, Ms. Georgia Karountzou, and adds: "Maintaining JTI's leadership in the tobacco industry with our continuous commitment to innovation and sustainable development lends a strategic character to our investment program.”
