The two international airports are the first of 10 airports managed by newly established CAS to have concluded their certification.

The certification of the remaining eight will be completed by the end of February. The actions follow law 4757/2020 that transferred the management of airports from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to the Civil Aviation Service.

Certification of the airports is part of the obligation to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

Prior to certification, officials inspected the airports’ facilities and the service’s central operations. Regular as well as unscheduled inspections will continue in the future as part of certification regulations.

Deputy Transport Minister Vasilis Economou said that the certifications were “an important step toward upgrading Greek state airports.

Under the collaboration of CAS and CAA, we guarantee high-level security and operational efficiency, boosting Greece’s role as an important airport hub.”
