Turks in Bulgaria rush to the aid of their brothers in Türkiye
The Turkish community in Bulgaria, taking advantage of the organizational power of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH), in the humanitarian aid efforts it started after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on 6 February, sent a large amount of aid materials to Türkiye.
After the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Turks living in Bulgaria started a relief campaign with their Bulgarian neighbors for earthquake victims.
In the country where there is at least 1 million Turkish population, HÖH has made the largest organization in collecting in-kind aid.
More than 1500 volunteers of MRF, which has set up aid collection centers in 29 regions across the country, sorted and packaged aid from all over Bulgaria.
Using a large warehouse in Haskova as a logistics center, HÖH shipped more than 110 trucks to AFAD's Edirne facilities.
In this operation, in which HÖH works in close coordination with the Turkish Embassy in Sofia, nearly 45,000 blankets and sleeping bags, 7,651 tent beds, 3,620 beds, 26 lighting devices, 92 mobile toilets/baths, 7 generators 322 tons of food, 265 tons of clothing and 46 tons of hygiene materials were sent.
While starting a large cash aid campaign, HÖH allocated around 800,000 Euros of cash donations collected at the first stage to the Sofia Embassy to buy tents and containers in Bulgaria.
The Embassy has provided more than 800 tents and around 150 containers from Bulgaria through cash donations.
The remainder of the cash aid collected at the HÖH exceeded 500 thousand euros.
HÖH will transfer the collected cash donations directly to AFAD.
