Srebrenica Memorial Center “closed until further notice due to the security Situation”

The Srebrenica Memorial Center informs the public that, in accordance with the current security situation, it will be closed until further notice.
This decision was made due to the inability to provide adequate security guarantees for our employees, associates, guests, and visitors, all in accordance with legal regulations and the current circumstances, as well as the coup d’etat that is in process and directed against the state institutions by rebel groups based in Banja Luka.
The safety of all involved must come first, and therefore the center will remain closed until the situation stabilizes and appropriate guarantees are ensured. All employees of the Memorial Center will perform their duties through remote work, if possible, in order to maintain the continuity of administrative and other operations. This work arrangement will be temporary until conditions are met for the return to regular activities. Additionally, all activities that can be carried out in Sarajevo and at other locations will continue, including the planned conference for March 11th in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
We express our gratitude to all visitors for their understanding and patience during this period. Our mission remains unchanged – preserving the memory of the victims of genocide and educating about the importance of peace, tolerance, and human rights.
The decision on reopening the Memorial Center will be made depending on the development of the security situation and after the competent authorities provide the necessary guarantees for the safety of all involved. Furthermore, for this decision, we will seek security guarantees from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), Office of the High Representative (OHR), and EUFOR. However, we will not now nor ever agree to have our security ensured by the institution that committed genocide and that even today carefully nurtures the tradition of genocide both in its name and in its organization. We call on the state leadership to take all possible steps as soon as possible and ensure the basic safety of all citizens at every step of this country, starting from Srebrenica.
