Ottoman heritage miniature exhibition opens in Sarajevo
An exhibition featuring miniature artworks depicting Ottoman-era heritage across the Balkans has opened in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Titled “Ottoman Traces in Rumelia,” the exhibition features 35 works by artist Gulcin Anmac and is being held at the Gazi Husrev-beg Hanikah, an Ottoman-era Islamic complex in the Bosnian capital.
Turkish Ambassador to Sarajevo Emin Akseki, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Vilayet Guliyev, Bosnian officials, Kuveyt Turk representatives and art enthusiasts attended the opening.
Ottoman heritage brought to life
The works depict mosques, bridges, madrasas and bazaars based on historical sources from 29 cities in 11 Balkan countries.
Anmac uses miniature art to highlight the architectural and cultural legacy of the Ottoman period in Rumelia, the historical Ottoman term for its Balkan territories.
Kuveyt Turk Deputy General Manager Semih Sel said preserving cultural heritage was a responsibility that connects tradition with the future, adding that miniature art helps preserve architectural memory.
The exhibition, held at the Museum of Islamic Culture and Art inside the Gazi Husrev-beg Hanikah, will remain open until Sept. 30.
