KYSEA to decide on the future of asylum applications from Syrians in Greece on Friday
According to sources at the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, there is a possibility that the asylum claims of Syrian refugees may be temporarily frozen due to the political uncertainty in the country.
The same sources said that Greece is considering this, following the example of other European countries that have done something similar.
Besides, Immigration and Asylum Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, responding to a topical question in Parliament, stressed that he will seek to talk as soon as possible with the new Commissioner for Migration, in order to exchange views on developments.
However, according to the same sources at the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, any decisions are expected to be taken by the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA), which will meet next Friday under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis
