GTGB Executive Board condemnes the closure of minority schools
Emphasising that the decisions taken by the incumbent government regarding minority education without taking into account the demands and opinions of the minority authorities into consideration are unacceptable, the GTGB administration stated that it condemns this and similar undemocratic practices.
In its written statement on the closure of the schools, GTGB Board of Directors stated the following
ANNOUNCEMENT - CONDEMNATION
As of the 2023-2024 academic year, it has become traditional to close our minority schools by our country, Greece, on the pretext of student shortage, and unfortunately, 9 more minority schools have been closed.
Decisions made by the incumbent government on minority education without taking into account the demands of minority authorities are never acceptable. We condemn these undemocratic practices.
It is clear that the Turkish minority of Western Thrace has been deprived of their rights arising from the Treaty of Lausanne. We demand the Greek administrators of our country to give up this discriminatory attitude as soon as possible and to return the educational autonomy granted in Lausanne.
